On this St. Patricks Day I can’t help but think about celebrations. Holidays are official excuses to have not just parties, but a celebration. To me, there is a difference.

A party  is a one time event that can include everything from noisemakers and crazy hats, to alcohol and loud music. Yes, there usually is a reason for the party, but I’ve attended parties that existed just to have a party

A celebration however, spans more than just a one time happening. Celebrations can be years in the making. An annual occurrence that reminds us of the past. St. Patricks Day is such an event. Celebrations create parties.

The most intriguing aspect of today, for me at least, is we all celebrate today. Regardless of heritage and culture. True, many indulge in the enjoyment of beverages and for them, that is celebration enough.

As I raise my Guinness later today, I will celebrate the past nine months of fatherhood. The good, the scary, the stinky, and most of all the joyous moments of being a dad. Being a parent is a celebration of life.

I’m interested in how others celebrate this universal celebration called St. Patrick’s Day, so let me know how you celebrate.

Happy St. Patricks Day to all!
