The Daily Prompt asks: You’ve inherited $5 million, with instructions that you must give it all away — but you can choose any organizations you like to be the beneficiaries. Where does the money go?
There are many causes I believe in. However, if I had to give away $5 million, I would divide the money between two causes: The March Of Dimes and Literacy Volunteers of America.
My son came a month early. For me this was a life-changing time. He spent a week in the NICU. While many families experience significantly longer NICU stays, the ups and downs are no different. For myself, the March of Dimes supports research and the prevention of premature birth. This cause truly hits home for me. I believe their work, and the work of NICU doctors and nurses is truly remarkable. So if I had the millions of dollars, I would donate to them.
Another cause that I believe is important to all of society is literacy. Reading is truly fundamental regardless of what profession a person enters. Books, short stories, poems, they are all adventures that anyone can enjoy. How amazing is reading?Literacy is key to learning and getting the most out of any education, and education is the key to a prosperous, civil society. So I would donate to Literacy Volunteers of America. Not to mention, as a parent, blogger, aspiring writer, and avid reader, this just makes sense.
